‘S5000 Open’ category evaluation day announced

THE S5000 Australian Drivers’ Championship will host an evaluation day this September, allowing time behind the wheel for prospective drivers keen to sample Australia’s premier open-wheel category.

To be held at The Bend Motorsport Park on Tuesday, 20 September, the ‘S5000 Open’ will see a fleet of S5000 racers on hand at the South Australian circuit in an opportunity to give interested drivers a chance to sample the cars at speed.

The event will also double as the season launch for the 2023 S5000 season, with key sporting, costing and technical evolutions planned for the 2023 season to be unveiled on the day.

The 2023 season is anticipated to become the best yet with the planned addition of key high-profile events to the calendar, even more competitive racing and the continued support of Motorsport Australia via the allocation of Super License points and the Gold Star award.

The S5000 Open has been priced affordably to open the opportunity to as many potential drivers as possible.

A full suite of experienced S5000 drivers will be on hand to offer coaching and support, while the S5000 Series’ administration, media and support staff will also be on site to field questions and outline plans for the category moving forward.

Garry Rogers Motorsport, Team BRM, Versa Motorsport and other Key S5000 teams will field cars on the day.

Interested parties should contact S5000 Category Manager Ben McMellan via email for further information about the day.

“The ‘S5000 Open’ will be a chance for drivers to get behind the wheel and really experience what S5000 is all about,” said McMellan.

“The Bend is the ideal location: it’s a fast, flowing circuit that really suits the cars and allows drivers to experience their full range of performance and what they’re all about.

“The event has been geared to be as accessible, affordable and also as informative as possible to give opportunities to a wide array of drivers who are interested in sampling the cars at speed.

“Spaces are limited so we would encourage everyone to get in touch as soon as possible to express interest in being part of the day.”
