S5000 round at Sydney Motorsport Park postponed

The second round of the VHT Australian S5000 Championship at Sydney Motorsport Park has been postponed.

Due to be held next weekend, Motorsport Australia, together with the Australian Racing Drivers’ Club (ARDC) operators of SMSP and Australian Racing Group (ARG), has postponed the round due to the ongoing COVID-19 (Coronavirus) situation.

A new date will be announced in due course, with Motorsport Australia and ARDC to work closely together to find a suitable option for all categories to complete a round at the Sydney venue.

S5000 category manager Chris Lambden says that the right decision has made in the current environment.

“Obviously, especially given the late cancellation of our F1 Grand Prix appearance, we’re disappointed that we are unable to proceed with the second round of the S5000 Australian Gold Star Championship, in Sydney,” said Lambden.

“We did try quite hard to put it together but in the end the growing national requirements and restrictions curtailed it.

“The emphasis now is on everyone staying fit and healthy over the next few weeks so that when we do come back it’ll be with a bang. The practice and qualifying laps we did complete at the GP really excited the fans who were there – there’s a lot more of that to come!”
