Andre Heimgartner gets star driver chance in carsales ARG eSport Cup

Andre Heimgartner will make his debut in the carsales ARG eSport Cup at Silverstone tonight, driving a Dallara Formula 3 car.

The Supercars regular and former TCR Australia driver will sport the colours of Australian whisky brand NED, who are his and Kelly Racing’s primary sponsor in the Supercars Championship.

The 24-year-old New Zealander started his career in open wheelers, racing Formula Fords in both his home country and in Australia, before switching to tin-top racing, including the New Zealand V8 SuperTourers, Super2 Supercars Series, Carrera Cup and ultimately, the Supercars Championship.

His only F3 racing in the real world came in 2013 when he competed in the Australian championship in a one-off round at Hidden Valley.

Heimgartner will be amongst a strong field of 44 cars, taking to the famous Silverstone Grand Prix layout.

The broadcast starts at 8pm AEST tonight and can be viewed on the TCR Australia Facebook and YouTube pages, as well as other support announcements.

The series is currently headed by V8 Touring Car driver Harley Haber, ahead of Kiwi driver Jaden Ransley and TCR Australia star Dylan O’Keeffe.

“It will be cool and interesting to race against some of these guys in the ARG eSport Cup,” said Heimgartner.

“I’ve seen a lot of the racing over the last few weeks and it looks like a lot of good fun.

“The combination of the F3 car, which I’ve driven once before in the real life, and Silverstone, will be a good mix.

“It will be very fast, high action with a bit of aero and drafting, so it should be fun and I can’t wait to get stuck into it and see how we go.”
