Mawson leads Leeds in second practice

Championship leader Joey Mawson edged out Luis Leeds in a tight VHT S5000 Australian Drivers’ Championship second practice session at Sydney Motorsport Park.

Just 0.07s covered the Team BRM and Garry Rogers Motorsport entries at the end of a 20-minute session, one delayed by a red flag half way through when Thomas Randle’s car stopped in the first sector.

RESULTS: Practice Sessions

Mawson and Leeds traded lap times when the session resumed with the former edging out the latter when the session ended.

Mawson’s 1m25.1871s best was slightly slower than the best lap banked earlier in practice one, but the field was much closer overall.

Title contender Tim Macrow was third while Randle, despite bringing out the red flag, was fourth.

It made for three teams in the top three at the end of a pair of competitive sessions on Friday.

Kiwi Kaleb Ngatoa was fifth – only 0.05s behind Randle – while Ricky Capo completed the top six.

After topping the first session, James Golding put his GRM entry seventh, just ahead of teammate Nathan Herne.

The top seven cars were covered by just 0.52s while Herne was less than a second from the quickest time.

Cooper Webster and Braydan Willmington completed the 10 ahead of qualifying, to be held at 5:25pm this evening in the Sydney twilight.
