Davies to join Versa Motorsport for S5000 campaign

THE RAPIDLY expanding Versa Motorsport team will add a second car for the remainder of their 2022 S5000 Australian Drivers’ Championship and Tasman Series campaign.

Founded at the end of the 2021 season, Versa will field a second S5000 entry for experienced driver Shae Davies for the remainder of the season.

Davies’ will join existing driver Cooper Webster at the team, fresh from a stunning round one performance at AWC Race Tasmania that currently has the team second in the championship.

Webster qualified fourth at Symmons Plains before finishing an outstanding second behind winner Tim Macrow in the feature race.

Davies’ joins Versa Motorsport with a lengthy background at the top levels of the sport, including a stint in Supercars and GT World Challenge Europe.

A former winner of what is now the Dunlop Super3 Series, Davies’ was also a contender in Carrera Cup and Super2 competition.

He contested 15 Supercars races between 2016-17 for Erebus Motorsport and MW Motorsport and has since been competing in the Stadium SuperTrucks series.

His S5000 debut will return him to where is career started, in open-wheel cars. Davies’ contested three seasons of Australian Formula Ford and also raced internationally in F1600 in the United States.

Davies’ will join teammate Webster and the Versa team in the second round of the 2022 S5000 Australian Drivers’ Championship for the Motorsport Australia Gold Star at Phillip Island next week.

Tickets for the event are now on sale, while all three races will be broadcast live and ad-break free on Stan Sport.

SHAE DAVIES

“I’m very pleased to be joining a new, fresh faced & professional team such as Versa in S5000 this season,” Davies said.

“In such a short time they have produced some stellar results and I can’t wait to become a part of the operation & hopefully push the team even further to the front with my teammate, Cooper.

“S5000 is a category I have had my eyes on since it’s inception & the desire to get behind the wheel of one of these weapons has been strong.

“I don’t underestimate the challenge ahead, big power & aero is an exciting prospect. I hope my experience with Supercars & GTs puts me in good stead to get up to speed quickly.

“Very excited to get underway at Phillip island, a circuit I enjoy immensely in a weeks time.”
