Boys tops first S5000 Surfers session
JORDAN BOYS has kicked off the S5000 Tasman Series in great form, topping the opening practice session at the Boost Mobile Gold Coast 500 today.
In a trouble-free 20-minute hit out, big open-wheel race cars returned to the streets of Surfers Paradise with a 1m10.5232s flyer to head teammate Nathan Herne by less than one tenth of a second.
The GRM duo were 1-2, with Team BRM’s Joey Mawson in third and just 0.2 seconds behind the pace.
The cars looked and sounded spectacular on the Gold Coast streets, with the drama-free session seeing times drop dramatically as the session unfolded and drivers got up to speed.
Versa Motorsport’s Cooper Webster was fourth while Formula 3 Champion Noah Sands was next on his competitive debut in the class, driving for GRM. His 1m11.9953s best was a solid start for the GRM driver.
Ben and Jude Bargwanna were next, with Elly Morrow eighth and Pro-Am driver Mark Rosser in ninth.
Practice two will see the cars return to the circuit at 2:00pm local time.
