88Racing launches its 2020 challenger

S5000 car owner Albert Callegher has revealed the look of his entry for the 2020 VHT Australian S5000 Championship.

To be known as 88Racing – S5000, the team will field Jordan Michels for the first two rounds, with the driver for the balance of the season yet to be announced.

Callegher, a driver in his own right back in the 80s and 90s, says that the name and intention of his team is ready for Asian expansion.

“We have branded our team 88Racing – S5000 intentionally to satisfy our Asian partners and promote S5000,” he said.

“Rather than focus on pure performance this year will be to assist ARG with S5000 as a “pay back” to the opportunity that presented itself to me last year thanks to Gary & Barry Rogers of GRM.

“This year we will provide planned “drive” days for younger drivers purely as an introduction or drive days to enable both their sponsors and themselves to encourage new members into S5000 to enable to grow the brand and class.

“S5000 is being promoted as a destination category and no doubt I see the expansion into Asia the most important step much the same way that Formula Holden (Formula Brabham in 1993) and in 1995 had a 3 country series with the final race at the F1 Adelaide GP. S5000 has that same opportunity only significantly larger.”

The S5000 cars hit the track for the first time at Albert Park tomorrow for practice and qualifying.
