Round 1 winner Thomas Randle will head to Sandown this weekend with a reduced six-point championship lead after a challenging Sunday at Phillip Island saw him limp a damaged car home to fourth position in the feature race, won by Joey Mawson.
Mawson sits third in the championship, 11 points behind Randle, while the pair of Team BRM teammates are split by the UCS Group entry of Tim Macrow – who pulled five points out of Randle’s title lead at the weekend.
Valvoline Team GRM driver James Golding was the biggest mover in the standings at Phillip Island, thanks mainly to his charge to second place in Sunday’s Alfie Costanzo Cup race.
Having entered the round seventh in the standings, Golding is now fourth and just 57 points from the series lead with two rounds and six races at Sandown (this weekend) and Sydney Motorsport Park (May 1-2) to come.
Luis Leeds holds sixth position, Nathan Herne seventh – despite his crash in Sunday’s race – with Cooper Webster, Ricky Capo, Antonio Astuti and Braydan Willmington rounding out the top-10.
The battle for the four-round 2021 Australian Drivers’ Championship continues this Saturday and Sunday at Sandown Raceway in suburban Melbourne.
