Shae Davies wins Nulon S5000 Race 2 at Albert Park
Versa Motorsport’s Shae Davies has won a shortened second race at Round 3 of the Nulon S5000 Australian Drivers’ Championship supporting the Formula 1 Australian Grand Prix.
For the second race of the weekend the top 75 percent of the field was inverted leaving yesterday’s race winner Joey Mawson plenty of work to do if he wanted to add another victory.
Due to delays during Formula 1 qualifying, the start of the second Nulon S5000 event was pushed back making for a spectacular race into the twilight. Davies led from the start as debutant Conor Somers slotted into second despite Blake Purdie’s late braking attempt to pass just failing to pay off.
There was plenty of action in the mid-pack as the likes of Aaron Cameron, Ben Bargwanna, Tim Macrow, Nathan Herne and James Golding struggled to progress through the field in what was a clean fight.
Somers dropped out of his battle with Purdie when he spun exiting the penultimate corner, while a safety car was called due to an incident involving James Davison and Zane Goddard at the final corner.
However, the race ended under this safety car period leaving Davies the winner from Purdie, Versa Motorsport’s Cooper Webster, Kiwi Kaleb Ngatoa and Macrow completed the top five.
Following were Herne, Golding, Cameron, Bargwanna and Mawson, with an exciting climax to the weekend promised prior to the running of the Formula 1 Australian Grand Prix.
Tomorrow’s final race for the Nulon S5000 Australian Drivers’ Championship is 10:25am AEST and will be live on Fox Sports 506.
