Cameron sets quickest ever Adelaide lap for S5000 pole
AARON CAMERON has flown to pole position at the VALO Adelaide 500, setting the quickest ever lap recorded on the current Adelaide Parklands circuit in the process.
Cameron’s 1m15.4972s came on his 14th lap of 16 in a compelling 20-minute session that ran from start to finish without interruption.
Cameron and Joey Mawson traded times for much of the session with times rapidly dropping into the 1m16s.
Cameron then jumped to the top with a series of scorching laps and was never troubled on his way to top spot.
Mawson held second for much of the session however was relegated to the second row thanks to a series of flyers by Nathan Herne and Cooper Webster.
Herne missed pole by 0.28 seconds, while Cooper Webster jumped to third with his 1m16.12s.
With Mawson fourth, Giancarlo Fisichella was an impressive fifth position on his S5000 return.
Jordan Boys was sixth with Ben Bargwanna 0.9s from pole in seventh.
Tim Macrow, Blake Purdie and Noah Sands rounded out the top-10, with Jude Bargwanna, Sebastian Amadio, Mark Rosser, Brad Gartner and Elly Morrow rounding out the fast 15.
The S5000 field races this afternoon at the VALO Adelaide 500 with the opening race live on Fox Sports and Kayo.
