2023 S5000 Australian Drivers’ Championship schedule confirmed

A SEVEN-ROUND schedule featuring key events across the SpeedSeries and Supercars calendar will highlight the 2023 S5000 Australian Drivers’ Championship season.

The 61st Motorsport Australia Gold Star campaign will commence at Symmons Plains Raceway at the annual Race Tasmania event in late February.

Back-to-back Victorian rounds follow, including the categories debut at Winton Motor Raceway for the newly-announced June 9-11 long weekend SpeedSeries round.

The Championship returns to Sydney Motorsport Park in July at the Beaurepaires Sydney SuperNight event with the Repco Supercars Championship.

For the first time since 2008, South Australia will host two Australian Drivers’ Championship rounds, commencing with Round 5 of the 2023 season to be held at The Bend’s OTR SuperSprint in August.

While S5000 has raced at The Bend previously – the circuit hosted the second ever non-championship race event for the category in 2019 – the circuit just outside Adelaide has never hosted a Gold Star round.

The championship will then conclude with a two-round Tasman Series, including a return to the VALO Adelaide 500 across the November 23-26 weekend.

The final two rounds will double as the Tasman Series, while all seven will contribute to the Australian Drivers’ Championship and Motorsport Australia Gold Star award points.

The location of the Victorian SpeedSeries round and the Tasman Series opener will be announced in due course.

“The 2023 S5000 calendar was about finding a balance between supporting our own SpeedSeries events while also delivering rounds at key Supercars Championship events as well.

“The 2023 calendar is a strong mixture of both with great events, circuits perfect for the S5000s to showcase their full potential and deliver the broadcast and attendance requirements for our competitors.

“S5000 will very much be a headline act at SpeedSeries rounds, including the brand-new event at Winton in June, while our championship debut at The Bend, a circuit almost as if it was designed for these cars, will be exciting.

“The momentum S5000 has built at the end of this season, capped off by an incredible showing at the VALO Adelaide 500, means everyone is excited about continuing that growth into the 2023 season.”
